Robert "Bob" L. Flennaugh, DDS
After graduating from high school I worked part of
the summer at Kelly’s Service Station, until they discovered that all I
knew about cars was how to drive them and how to put gas in them. Then
I worked a short time on the railroad until I discovered that the
mosquitoes were much bigger and hungrier on the railroad and loved me
with an everlasting love.
I attended the University of Alaska from 1955-1958, and transferred
to the University of Washington in 1958. While at the U of W I played
the saxophone in the ‘Husky” Marching Band until I was appointed the
Drum Major (leading the band, not playing the big drum). I had the
privilege of leading the band in the Rose Bowl Parades and the Rose
Bowl games of ‘ 60 and ’61.
I entered the University of Washington of Dentistry in September of
1960. During my second year of dental school I met (1961) and married
(1963) Bernice Giggans, a beautiful young student form Bremerton, WA.
After graduating from dental school (1964) I established my dental
practice in Seattle, WA. I served on the faculty of the dental school
until I was appointed to the University of Washington Board of Regents
in 1970. In 1975 I was elected President of the Board.
In 1976 I was appointed the dentist for the Seattle Seahawks Professional Football Team, a position I currently hold.
In 1977 I became involved in Bible Study Fellowship International.
I was appo9inted the Teaching Leader for the Seattle Evening Men’s
class in 1984. In 1992 I was appointed to the position of Area Advisor,
responsible for ten Men’s classes in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon.
I served as a founding member of the Washington State Convention
and Trade Center Board of Trustees (1982-92), which was responsible for
the planning, building, and operation of the Convention center.
I am a member of First African Methodist Episcopal Church where I
serve as Church School Superintendent Steward Pro Tem of the Steward
Board.
Bernice and I are the proud parents of Robert L. Flennaugh II, a
graduate of the University of Washington School of Law, and married to
Jocelyn Peterson; and Damon Flennaugh, a graduate of the UW School of
Aeronautics and Astronautics, and married to Yukiko Nakada. We have
three grandchildren; Jaden Robert (9-7-02) born to Bob and Jocelyn; and
Nicole Marie (10-22-00) and Trejan Eliot (10-8-02) born to Damon and
Yukiko.
